If Pantone is being provocative is more difficult to ascertain. They claim, Cloud Dancer mixes well with other colors, provides a calm backdrop, makes a minimalist statement, and exudes refined calm.

Feedback online, in contrast, has been less complimentary. Some commentators have accused Pantone of being completely "Pantonedeaf." Fashion and trend forecaster Mandy Lee called it "disappointing." Some have even compared it with subtle advocacy of problematic concepts seen in popular culture.
