Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as the country executed operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and continuing offensive against it by the United States and Israeli forces. Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area close to the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any impact is uncertain and the American officials has remained silent. Missile Defenses Activated In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house American military installations - reported they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their air space. In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East. Iran's Declared Retaliation The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on the Islamic Republic initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday. That US-Israeli operation - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on sites associated with the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump encouraging the people of Iran to rise up against the government. Wider Impacts In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military reported it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran. The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles". "Emirati air defenses engaged the missiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," the statement continued. It said debris landed in a populated district in the capital, resulting in some property damage and fatalities. The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
