The British designer Antony Price, the influential style architect responsible for some of the most iconic looks worn by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.

His reputation was built on his defined forms and dramatic aesthetics, such as the soft-colored suits that featured in rock band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."

This news arrives just weeks after he debuted his latest collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress that paid homage to the famous black velvet "dress" once worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Lasting Legacy

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to enroll at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was responsible for the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger wore during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He founded his own label in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show featured as its opener outfits on supermodel Jerry Hall, who also wore the bridal gown Price specifically designed for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price designed the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to merge menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in crafting body-hugging looks made him a "genuine original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he began working on pieces for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, such as a number of outfits for her tour of the United States following her marriage.

Following a profession lasting half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in conjunction with the label 16Arlington.
