The State of Texas Attorney General Takes Legal Action Against Acetaminophen Makers Concerning Autism Assertions

Judicial Case
The Texas Attorney General, a Trump ally seeking election to the United States Senate, claimed pharmaceutical manufacturers of concealing potential dangers of Tylenol

The top legal official in Texas Paxton is filing a lawsuit against the makers of acetaminophen, asserting the companies hid potential risks that the medication created to pediatric cognitive development.

The court filing comes four weeks after Donald Trump advocated an unproven link between using Tylenol - referred to as acetaminophen - throughout gestation and autism spectrum disorder in offspring.

Paxton is filing suit against the pharmaceutical giant, which previously sold the medication, the only pain reliever suggested for pregnant women, and the current manufacturer, which now manufacturers it.

In a statement, he said they "deceived the public by making money from suffering and promoting medication regardless of the risks."

The manufacturer says there is lacking scientific proof linking Tylenol to autism spectrum disorder.

"These manufacturers lied for decades, deliberately risking numerous people to increase profits," Paxton, from the Republican party, declared.

The manufacturer said in a statement that it was "deeply concerned by the perpetuation of misinformation on the safety of acetaminophen and the possible consequences that could have on the welfare of American women and children."

On its website, the company also stated it had "continuously evaluated the relevant science and there is insufficient valid information that indicates a verified association between consuming acetaminophen and autism."

Groups speaking for medical professionals and health professionals agree.

ACOG has said paracetamol - the key substance in Tylenol - is among limited choices for pregnant women to address discomfort and elevated temperature, which can present major wellness concerns if ignored.

"In multiple decades of research on the use of acetaminophen in pregnancy, no reliable research has definitively established that the use of acetaminophen in any trimester of pregnancy results in neurodevelopmental disorders in children," the organization stated.

The court filing mentions latest statements from the previous government in arguing the medication is potentially dangerous.

In recent weeks, the former president generated worry from medical authorities when he told pregnant women to "struggle intensely" not to use Tylenol when sick.

The US Food and Drug Administration then published an announcement that physicians should contemplate reducing the use of Tylenol, while also declaring that "a proven link" between the medication and autism in young ones has remains unverified.

Health Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr, who oversees the Food and Drug Administration, had vowed in April to undertake "extensive scientific investigation" that would identify the source of autism spectrum disorder in a short period.

But authorities advised that discovering a unique factor of autism spectrum disorder - believed by scientists to be the consequence of a intricate combination of inherited and environmental factors - would not be simple.

Autism is a type of lifelong neurodivergence and condition that impacts how persons experience and interact with the surroundings, and is recognized using doctors' observations.

In his lawsuit, Paxton - a Trump ally who is running for federal office - claims Kenvue and J&J "deliberately disregarded and sought to suppress the evidence" around acetaminophen and autism spectrum disorder.

The case aims to force the corporations "remove any promotional materials" that states acetaminophen is reliable for expectant mothers.

The court case mirrors the concerns of a assembly of guardians of minors with autism spectrum disorder and ADHD who sued the manufacturers of acetaminophen in 2022.

Judicial authorities threw out the lawsuit, declaring studies from the plaintiffs' authorities was lacking definitive proof.
